NIGERIA TO PARTNER FOREIGN COUNTRIES FOR TALENT EXPORTATION

The Honorable Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite has disclosed that the Federal Government is set to partner with other countries for the exportation of skilled talents in the country. She made this known during a Ministerial briefing organized by the Ministry of Information and National Orientation at the International Press Centre in Abuja recently.

The Minister stated that the Ministry has been engaging with different international communities, organisations and Chambers of Commerce and Industries in different countries to take up our talents and have made a lot of headway.

Listing some achievement and projects already being executed, Dr. Anite, noted that the Federal Government is already in the process of finalising the signing of MOUs with different countries who are interested in skilled talents for exportation, adding that all immigration issues would be clarified.

According to her, skills across different sectors of the economy as well as the different Organizations and Companies that will obtain them would be considered, countries like America, Canada, Germany, UAE, among others. She added that within the next couple of months, the portal will be opened and people who already have talent that they are looking for will apply and those who don’t have skills will go through the Skill Development Programme that will be put in place for them to be upskilled.

Speaking further, Dr Doris, revealed that Industrial Training Fund (ITF) has already opened up its Portal for Skill-Up Artisans (SUPA) for artisans. She called on artisans who are interested to apply online while waiting for the roll up programme.

She assured that the programme will generate more than one million jobs for Nigerians seeking to work abroad, stating that the Federal Government plan to ensure that Nigerians have the right opportunities and would not be taken advantage of when they go to work abroad.

Earlier, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris stated that the Ministerial Press Briefing was to build trust in the Federal Government Policies and ensure that Nigerians are well informed about the activities of the different Federal Agencies in the country.

In attendance were the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Amb. Nura Abba Rimi, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, Dr. Ngozi Onwudiwe, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, as well as Chief Executive Officers of Agencies under both Ministries.
