AMB. KATAGUM MEETS OKONJO-IWEALA AT WTO MINISTERIAL CONFERENCE

The Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Amb. Mariam Yalwaji Katagum paid a courtesy visit to the Director-General (DG) of the World Trade Organisation, Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala in her office.

The Minister who led the Nigerian delegation to the 12th World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Conference in Geneva, Switzerland visited the DG with her team.

Trade Ministers from Member countries of the World Trade Organization converged in Geneva,Switzerland for the 12th Ministerial Conference of the global trade body and are expected to make advances or decisions on a number of open battlefront, such as Trade responses to COVID-19; disciplining fisheries subsidies and updating the 25 years old Trade rule book.

Ministers from across the world will have the opportunity to review the functioning of the multilateral trading system, to make general statements and to take action on the future work of the WTO.

Kazakhstan was originally scheduled to host MC12 in June 2020 but the conference was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is the first conference held since the appointment of Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as the new WTO Director-General and is being co-organised by Kazakhstan under the Chairmanship of its President’s Envoy for International Trade,H.E. Mr. Timur Suleimenov.
