The Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade & Investment (FMITI) operates through specialized departments, each dedicated to a key aspect of our mission. Professional Departments
Chemical and Non-Petrochemical Department
The Department oversees the chemical industry and aims to make Nigeria's industrial sector a key GDP contributor by driving value addition, job creation, wealth generation, and sustainable livelihoods.
Industrial Development Department
The Industrial Development Department (IDD) formulates and implements industrial policies to align with federal directives, boost the sector, and position Nigeria as an industrial hub. Its focus includes removing barriers to private investment, reducing business costs, and fostering growth and competitiveness for sustainable industrial development.
Industrial Inspectorate Department
The Industrial Inspectorate Department (IID) operates under the Industrial Inspectorate Act and the Industrial Development (Income Tax Relief) Act, with a mandate to advance industrialization through incentives, data management, and investment monitoring.
Investment Promotion
Renamed in 2011, the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment was tasked with attracting investments, creating jobs, generating wealth, and driving economic growth. The Investment Promotion Department was established in late 2012 to support these mandates.
Patents and Designs
The department handles the registration of inventions, innovations, and product designs, administers the Patents and Designs Act, and incorporates intellectual property treaties to promote industrialization and economic growth.
Federal Procedure Inspectorate Service
The department ensures the fumigation and quality control of agricultural produce to standardize, certify, and promote safe consumption and successful international trade.
Department of Trade
The Department of Trade promotes domestic and international trade through policy implementation and negotiations, enhancing market access, investment, and economic development.
Trademarks
The department oversees trademark registration, administration, and enforcement under the Trademarks Act, advises on IP policy, represents Nigeria in international IP forums, and promotes IP education and training.
Department of Weights and Measures
The Department of Weights and Measures ensures accurate, fair transactions through precise calibration, supports research and innovation, encourages competition, and strengthens collaborations with national and international organizations.
Service Departments
Policy, Planning, Research & Statistics
The Department is the engine room and the think tank for the Ministry, coordinating all its activities for efficient and effective realization of its key mandates in the Industry, Trade and Investment sectors of the economy.
Commodities and Export
The Commodities and Export Department, formed from the former Commodities and Products Inspectorate Department, serves as the Ministry's export promotion arm, focusing on the Federal Government's emphasis on non-oil export trade.
General Services
The General Services Department aims to create an efficient, cost-effective working environment that boosts staff productivity and provides timely services to the Ministry and its staff.
Public-Private Partnership Unit
The PPP Unit of FMITI was established to mobilize private sector resources for national development, expedite project execution, improve service delivery, and address the infrastructure deficit by adopting the PPP procurement model.
Account and Finance
The department manages the Ministry's accounts, ensuring transparency and accountability in its operations.
