About FMITI

The Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment was restructured in 2011 to strengthen the Nigerian economy, drawing inspiration from successful models in both developed and emerging economies such as the United Kingdom, Malaysia, and Singapore. This restructuring expanded its scope, adding investment promotion to its portfolio—an area that was previously outside the remit of the former Federal Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Today, the Ministry plays a critical role in driving industrialization, promoting trade, attracting investments, and supporting economic diversification. Its policies and programs are designed to create a business-friendly environment, support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and position Nigeria as a competitive player in the global market.
